Newton Stewart......'the Gateway to the Galloway Hills' is the outdoor centre of the South of Scotland. Hosting the biggest walking festival in the area, and on the doorstep of the celebrated 7-Stanes Mountain Bike tracks at Kirroughtree and Glentrool, we are serious about our beautiful countryside.

The Galloway Forest Park is the largest forest park in the United Kingdom, with some of the most scenic locations to be found anywhere in Scotland. The Galloway Hills are a fantastic walking location and it is for this reason that this website exists.

We bring together a collection of walk routes and make them available for you to enjoy at any time of the year; after all WalkFest can only provide a glance at the tip of the iceberg that once created these hills in all their magnificence.

Please enjoy using our routes. They will be few in number from the start, as the building of this site is entirely voluntary. Indeed the whole WalkFest event survives because of the effort of volunteers, not least of which our friends at Galloway Mountain Rescue Team.
