Walk 2.6 - BAGBIE and KIRKMABRECK
Distance - 8km (5 miles) Walking Time 3.5 hours
Ascent - N/a
Difficulty Level - Easy
Start - Multi Start Point (Sunday) NX450 646
Depart - 1200hrs

This walk will give an insight into the physical environment, the ecology and the economy, past and present, of a typical Galloway Upland Farm. The walk will be partly on tracks and partly on public road and will offer attractive views of Wigtown Bay. Dr. Joan Mitchell, whose background includes farming and tourism will lead it.

From Carsluith village walkers will climb a narrow hill track to a coastal viewpoint and remains of a roman fort. From here fine views of Wigtown Bay and the Machars may be enjoyed. As we continue across fields with sheep grazing and tending to young lambs, we can enjoy splendid views of Cairnsmore of Fleet and the Knee of Cairnsmore. The remains of a 19th century croft provides the setting for a historical insight into farming at that time.

We then continue across open hillside to Kirkmabreck Quarry before descending to the public road for our return to Carsluith village.

This walk offers a potential opportunity to observe Ospreys, Peregrine Falcons and Buzzards hunting in their natural habitat - so bring your binoculars and camera!

There will be an optional bus transfer from the Multi Start Point, but you can start from the farm steading (NX 492 552) if you prefer. The bus transfer will cost £1.00 per walker.

Book Now - There is no limit to the number of walkers on this walk.
