Walk 1.7 - LOCH TROOL
Distance - 8km (5 miles) Walking Time 3 hours
Ascent - N/a
Difficulty Level - Easy
Start - Multi Start Point (Sunday) NX450 646
Depart -1300hrs
Return -1630hrs

TIP - For a longer walk you can combined this with Walk 1-5

Your walk circumnavigates Loch Trool and passes the site of the 1307 Battle of Glentrool and your guide for the afternoon is a local historian and retired Forest District Manager.

The route follows a series of roads, tracks and waymarked paths and for a section follows the route of the Southern Upland Way. The area is noted for its outstanding natural beauty and the route offers some spectacular views of the Galloway Hills. The undulating path on the southern shores of Loch Trool eventually passes the 1307 battle site where Robert the Bruce rolled huge boulders down upon the English troops as they approached the foot of Mulldonoch.

As we pass Glenhead, we can think of writers such as McCormick and Cockett and savour the solitude offered by this deciduously wooded glade.

Wildlife is in abundance in this locallity, so take time to observe the skies and woodland around you - you'd be surprised what might be lurking on the skyline.

This walk is sure to be popular so we'd recommend booking early.

If you wan't to enjoy this as an extension to Walk 1-5 you should book the optional extension.
