Knockman wood is the largest area of pasture woodland is South Scotland, a FCS Reserve, it contains a neolithic burial cairn, medieval villages and the finest example of a corn kiln in South scotland.

Both woodlands are part of the Cree Valley Community Woodlands Trust project (see www.cvcwt.org.uk) within the Cree valley.

The open land on Barclye farm contains a medieval village and an ancient broch. The area was the last recorded home to a witch in Scotland. The walk from the wood of Cree to Knockmans gives unrivalled views over the drumlin covered landscape of Wigtownshire and the outer Solway.
