[Cancelled]
A
two day adventure with one night wild camping.
Ever wanted to try wild camping well here is just
the opportunity you were waiting for.
Two great days walking through the best of the Galloway
hills, camping high in the remotest part of Galloway
by the outfall burn of the famous Loch Enoch.
Day One - 13 kilometres Walking, 840 metres
of ascent.
Starting at Glen Trool we follow the Southern Upland
way for 3 km then turn left and climb Craiglee 531mt
with its great views down Glentrool to the West &
Lock Dee to the east.
We then head North past loch Narroch climbing again
onto Snibe Hill & Craignaw 645mt with fantastic views
all the way along this rough rocky ridge, then its
a steep rocky decent to The Devils Bowling Green (a
flat area scattered with large boulders) to Craignairy
and finally Loch Enoch our Beautiful remote campsite.
Day One evening (Optional) 2.6 kilometres walking
200 metres ascent A quick trip to the top of Mullwachar.
Day Two - 9.5 Kilometres walking 360 metres
of ascent
It’s a tough start to day two, the walking is a little
rough and we are going to climb the Merrick 843mt
(South Scotland’s highest peak) from the north side.
We will aim for the gap between Kierireoch and Merrick
climb onto Little Spear then follow the ridge onto
the Merricks summit.
This summit, weather permitting, is a great spot
for a long break as the panorama stretches from the
Clyde in the north past Arran, Kintyre & Ireland to
the west then South to the Mull of Galloway and Isle
of Man continue round to the Lake District and finally
East to the Dumfries & Moffat hills.
Its nearly all downhill from here we traverse the
Neive of the Spit to Benyellary 719m and follow a
good well marked path down through the woods to Glentrool
and the end of the best circular route in the Galloway
hills.
Don’t let lack of equipment put you off - we have
a limited selection of equipment available for loan
if you make a donation to Galloway MRT funds.
